entry 015 | kode with klossy 💻🌱

helllooo!!!

i hope you guys are having an amazing day so far<3

today, i'm talking about the amazing program that is KODE WITH KLOSSY!!

kode with klossy was founded by model karlie kloss, with the mission to bridge the gender gap within tech. this year marks its ninth year of being founded, which i think is incredible!! kode with klossy provides teen girls summer camps with different comp sci programs, such as data science, ai/machine learning, mobile app development, & website development (which is what i completed!)

during my 2 week in-person camp, the instructors and instructor assistants were SO incredibly wonderful and open. they had regular check-ins, always asked for student feedback, and would actually implement those changes! (not something you would regularly see now, would you?) i found that to be so impressive, because a lot of other clubs that ask for feedback don't implement changes that quickly!! additionally, all the content we learnt, we would always try to review before moving on, with challenges! the best part of the challenges was that there were different levels; mild, medium, and spicy. when you understood a concept a lot more, they would encourage you to try the harder challenges, which is such an amazing push, because it fosters a growth learning mindset. i feel like that really helped me grasp the concepts i've learnt.

besides the content for the camp, the community building was unlike any other event/camp i've participated in. we would change table groups every day to learn from ALL of our other peers, have a BUNCH of games to play (wa, mafia, guess the song), and really just get to connect. since this camp was a 2 week long day camp, the duration was similar to a school day! i really appreciate the fact that they wouldn't try to make us sit for too long, whenever we covered a good amount of content, we would get a brain break!! i found that super helpful, because my attention span isn't quite the best (esp when i'm sitting in one place). the brain breaks were SO fun, we even got to play just dance. also NEED to mention, we got accessible snacks all day every day, and im talking chips, bars, fruit rollups, gummy bears, the GOOD stuff guys 🎀🎀 plus, every day we would have a theme day! the ones i can recall from the top of my head include pajama day, black and white day, sunglasses day, on wednesdays we wear pink, & more!! the first week we covered the content, so the basic blocks of html, css, and js! the presentations were super accessible, and content was easy to digest. the entire instructional team also had amazing humor, yet also kept us on track, which was a balance that i loved. there was truly never a dull moment during camp. they were so open and welcoming!!! the second week is when we began to work on final projects! this is when we were grouped together with other kwk scholars to develop a website for a topic we were passionate about. shout out to my group who were the sweetest people ever! best group i've worked with :) we worked on a website built for teen girls to educate themselves on mental health and gain easy access to a multitude of resources for self-love + mental health education! follow us on insta right now, we'll have our website launched soon?! :))

overall, kode with klossy has been one of the most life-changing experiences in my life. i would HIGHLY recommend you check out kode with klossy and try applying next summer!! more info in their website :) to my instructional team and kwk friends, i miss the brain breaks, lessons, games, music, and laughter filled days with you guys. you will forever have a special place in my heart! sending love & happiness your way 💗 sincerely,

studybutterfly 🦋✨
